The moment behind the mission

One whale.
A reason to act.

On a trip near Cabo in Baja California, Mexico, One Journey’s founder saw a whale through a drone with fishing equipment caught on it. That encounter sparked a desire to do something for the ocean and the wildlife that depends on it.

Ocean Cleanup is the first project we are developing in response: a starting point for practical cleanup work and awareness around whales, turtles and other marine wildlife.

The encounter inspired this project. It does not establish a confirmed cleanup site or a wildlife rescue operation.

From our camera

The life worth caring for.

A mother and calf filmed on the trip near Cabo. This is a separate sighting, not footage of a rescue or the entangled whale’s recovery.

Original footage supplied by our founder. This clip has no recorded audio. The sightings inspired the project; they are not documentation of completed cleanup work.

The direction, not a finished promise

Start small.
Make it real.

Our proposed focus is cleanup and awareness. The operational plan, location, budget and dates still need to be confirmed.

  1. 01

    Define a practical cleanup

Identify a suitable site, local requirements, safe handling and a responsible waste-disposal plan before scheduling fieldwork.

  2. 02

    Build the awareness campaign

Use real imagery and the story behind the project to invite people to care about the ocean and understand what we are developing.

  3. 03

    Publish the plan before fundraising

Explain the confirmed activity, costs and how contributions would be used before opening project donations.

  4. 04

    Document the work

Once fieldwork begins, publish dated updates and verified results, including what was collected and where it went.

A note on wildlife safety

This is not a call to approach or free an entangled animal. Only trained and authorized responders should attempt disentanglement, as explained by NOAA Fisheries. Seek qualified local response guidance if you encounter wildlife in distress.
